Marine Chamber Orchestra at NOVA
This year marks the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, and this program of all-American composers celebrates the incredible milestone. Marine Band Assistant Director 1st Lt Jose Toranzo programmed iconic Americana works, starting off strong with Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, known as the “Dean of American Music.” Originally commissioned by the Cincinnati Symphony during WWII to honor the everyday American, the fanfare is unmatched in its compelling emotional depth. George Whitefield Chadwick, famous for his eclectic and folk-like flair, brings a European-romanticism style to the program with his jaunty and joyful Sinfonietta in D. Plus, David Diamond’s Music for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is just as dramatic as the play itself, featuring distinctive tonal and modal harmonies.
