Dear Journalists,
Think Washington, DC for travel stories this winter and beyond. Here’s why:
• Washington, DC shines during the holiday season. There’s only one place to see the National Christmas Tree and National Menorah. Enjoy beloved local traditions, like tea with festive displays and live carolers at iconic hotels, live theater performances of holiday classics and ice skating in distinct settings. New in 2024, experience two European style holiday markets. The revamped DowntownDC Holiday Market in Penn Quarter (Nov. 22-Dec. 23), celebrating 20 years, boasts 110 vendors, 90 percent of which are women, LGBTQ+ or BIPOC owned. The DC Holiday Market at Dupont Circle (Nov. 22-Dec. 15) will offer artisans, live music and sweet treats.
• The giant pandas are making their highly anticipated return to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, making the nation’s capital the only place in the U.S. to see giant pandas for free. Hotels, restaurants and other attractions across the city are planning themed offers and activations. Their public debut is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2025.
• New additions to DC’s thriving arts and culture scene include powerful exhibits and the long-awaited opening of a cultural museum. On Dec. 13, the National Museum of African American History and Culture debuts a temporary exhibition entitled “In Slavery’s Wake: Making Black Freedom in the World.” In January, the Go-Go Museum & Café will open in the heart of Anacostia. The first institution dedicated to the celebration and preservation of the syncopated, drum-driven funk that is DC’s native musical form will feature interactive exhibitions, outdoor space for live performances, holograms of Go-Go icons and a graffiti display.
