What began as a small pop-up venture from an apartment stoop evolved into a thriving business with a loyal following, and for good reason. The menu is simple – homemade flour tortillas with fresh fillings including cheesy scrambled eggs, house-cured chorizo and fried potatoes, complemented by charred tomato and cilantro crema salsa. And did we mention you can snag one taco for $4.50 or make it six for $24?

China Chilcano

If DC had a culinary Mount Rushmore, son of Spain and global humanitarian José Andrés would certainly be on it, so it’s fitting that the acclaimed chef has three restaurants that have achieved Bib Gourmand status in the esteemed Michelin Guide. China Chilcano, one of his restaurants, is an homage to chifa cuisine, which is native to Peru and grew out of the nation's 19th- and 20th-century Chinese immigrant community who combined local ingredients with Asian cooking styles. Head to Penn Quarter for a feast filled with ceviche, dim sum, stir-frys and even sashimi.
