Black Alley at Penn Social

BLACK ALLEY has been pushing the art of music to its rhythmic limits for some time now. Determined to create a unique musical elixir, Black Alley has taken the finest ingredients of trap, rock, and go-go to create their own genre-bending sound called “Hood Rock”. Black Alley has leveraged the popularity of the band's music and brand to launch a series of community service programming efforts - partnering with local and national businesses to provide scholarships to young people from the area attending college; spearheading protests and creative projects that disrupt efforts to silence and marginalize Go-Go music and African-American native Washingtonian culture; advocating for and helping draft legislation that made Go-Go music the official music of the District of Columbia; collaborating with the DC Creative Affairs Office to produce culturally-responsive learning tools that creatively respond to the social development needs of the City's young people; and working to raise awareness around the critical issues of environmental sustainability/ climate change and how they are interconnected with our community's demands for social justice.
