Community Day: The Universal Message of Kwanzaa

During a series of activities, audiences can explore ways to celebrate Kwanzaa for the first time, while others may find ways to refresh their existing practice of celebrating the holiday

Dec 07, 2024. 11:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m.

Kwanzaa is deeply rooted in the history, culture, and solidarity of the African diaspora. Established by Maulana Karenga a year after the Watts Rebellion in 1965, the holiday was founded to help African Americans reconnect to their African and cultural heritage and is observed from December 26 to January 1. Each day is a celebration of one of seven core principles known as the Nguzo Saba. During a series of activities, audiences can explore ways to celebrate Kwanzaa for the first time, while others may find ways to refresh their existing practice of celebrating the holiday.
