This free Symposium will occur September 19 and 20, 2025 at DAR Constitution Hall.
In celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary, learn how Spain was one of the critical albeit lesser-known U.S. allies during the American Revolution, through a two day symposium presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, the Fundación Ramón Areces, and the Spanish Embassy. Presentations by historical experts will detail Spain’s role in the Revolutionary War, and booth displays from various organizations will share upcoming plans for the nation's 250th Anniversary!
You may have heard about the role the Marquis de Lafayette played in the fight for American independence, but do you know Bernardo de Galvez? The Revolutionary War was not merely a fight between the fledgling United States and a British titan, it was a global war between Great Britian and its enemies abroad. While the French assisted the Continental Army in the north, many battles were fought by the Spanish colony leadership and citizens in the south, aiding the Continental Army in its quest to overthrow the British.
The contributions of these brave Spanish Patriots have often been overlooked, but a free Symposium hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution, in collaboration with the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute, the Fundación Ramón Areces, and the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in the United States will bring this important history to the general public!
