Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique”
Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” Symphony is a force to be reckoned with. Translated as “full of feeling,” it is a veritable declaration of forbidden love shrouded in mystery. This impassioned program also features Prokofiev’s evocative Summer Night Suite and Time’s River, an NSO co-commission by Alexander Raskatov. Alexei Ogrintchouk, Principal Oboe of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam, takes center stage for Raskatov’s new concerto, described as “a hymn to nature in resonance with our time.”
